This was a commissioned piece done for a couple whose family owned a huge ranch in Jamul, CA in the early 1900s. They have since sold the ranch, but never let that part of their history fade. The saddle and the rope in this piece are from the original ranch and were used by the family in day-to-day life. Also, the wine glass features the original family brand. The cross in the piece was built especially for the wife, filled with personal meaning and sentimental value. Of course Scotty can’t paint without adding his own colorful, sexy, cool twist, hence the bright red riding gloves and the ever-suggestive title.
Yet another testament to the pure skill of the artist, Save A Horse depicts a tooled leather saddle and authentic lasso to perfection. Bound and tethered, the woman doesn’t seem to be struggling in this scenario, a common theme in the artist’s work. Some may take it to the dark side predicting yet again the powerless woman situation; although this is not at all the case. The artist merely paints the bedroom scenario that all real cowboys dream of. What an imagination.
